Ruby on Rails is a great platform for rapid development of modern Web applications. This session will provide an overview of Rails' benefits, take a detailed look at one of the Rails applications built for Mount Holyoke College, discuss areas of particular interest for Rails in higher education, and describe possible approaches to tackling Rails projects at your own institutions.

For the past two years Sven has worked as Mount Holyoke College's Web Team Lead, where he is responsible for the implementation and support of a wide variety of Web technology systems and solutions. He has more than a decade of professional computer experience in Web and applications development, including stints at Rare Medium and HBO. He has a Master's in computer science from New York University, and a B.S. in astronomy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
