Academic Alert System
Plaster Student Union 315
Missouri University of Science and Technology has developed a Web-based academic alert system to assist students at risk of failing, with the secondary goal of increased student retention. We will share information on the system's planning, creation and results, with the hope the session will generate ideas for your own similar systems.
This system, used as early as the first week of classes, alerts students to grade deficiencies. By reaching these students early we hope to correct problems so that the students can succeed academically. Currently 43% of alerted students received a final letter grade higher than their reported mid-term grade, and 66% of these students received a C or better as a final grade
